Loving Retirement Life

When I was working some gals just didn't know what they would do when retiring so they continued to work. I had all sorts of ideas. I can't imagine not doing something. (must be hereditary) Heck, volunteering is a good idea. Working in an unhealthy environment just didn't seem worth it. We pulled the trigger, so to speak, while dealing with a mild case of COVID-19 and decided to retire on 7/22.

Neither of us used our pension because we felt the financial institution Texas used for their retirement was not a good choice. Yes, Blackrock.

Fresh air and coffee on our porch each morning is the best way to start our day. Hummingbirds on the feeder and other birds in the area. It is peaceful. I don't miss the hustle and bustle of a larger town. Not even the closest city with a population of 120k. We travel there for supplies and maybe a meal once a month.

Living a frugal life and enjoying our small town is the best thing we have done in some time. This doesn't mean we just sit around. There are plenty of projects for hubby and me. Yes, I finally have my own craft/sewing room. This is heaven. I make 90% of our meals from scratch and deal with the interior of the house. Hubby is in charge of the exterior. The fall garden is coming soon.

Since retirement, I have expanded my cooking. To date, I now make ALL the flour and corn tortillas, bread, cauliflower pizza crusts, and any kind of cold salad. Today I am going to try fermenting sour kraut. Fermenting is so much better for your gut. The sour kraut you buy in the store lacks all the vitamins you get with fermentation.  This could be something we ALWAYS have and add to each meal. I got my inspiration from a gal on YouTube. Her channel is called Farmhouse On Boone. She is a master at Sourdough Bread. It's a kind of fermentation. Six ingredients for a healthier bread.

In conclusion, try learning something new or just expand on what you know. YouTube will teach you anything you might see on Pinterest. I have three other projects I work on in between new cooking methods. Busy is better and moving is even better. It is getting cooler, FINALLY, here in Texas. Walks will be my go-to morning exercise.

Grocery Pick-up Convience

A month ago I would have said NO WAY to grocery pick-up. I can't believe I am hooked on it now.  We live 45 minutes from a box store or...
